National Volunteer Week is held from April 27th to May 3rd this year. Now is the time to start making a gameplan for your recognition event. A small effort will show that you appreciate the efforts of the people who do so much and ask for nothing in return.

Volunteers are those wonderful people who donate their time, resource and sometimes money to help others. Sometimes they help those less fortunate, other times they help children or seniors, and sometimes they just make special events that much more special. Volunteers come in all ages, too. Students often help out at nursing homes, Special Olympics, charity road races and the simple car wash. Thousands of volunteers offer their services in schools for a wide variety of events and school activities. Hospitals rely on volunteers to help patients during recovery. Candy stripers and goodwill visitors help make stays more comfortable for the young and old.

If you are in an administrator at a school, hospital, nursing home or municipality, make sure to throw a special event to honor the volunteers in your organization or community. Not only will you be showing your appreciation, but you will help to promote volunteering and mentoring programs to a whole new group of people.
